It might have been a couple years ago now, but the glitz and glam of the New York premiere and after-party of the remake of The Gambler starring Mark Wahlberg will always be fresh in my mind! I had actually previewed the movie at a pre-screening so I quickly spotted actor Anthony Kelley who plays a high school basketball star in the film and told him I was looking forward to watching the movie again - he hadn't even seen it yet so I had to tell him how great he was!
A few seats away from me was screenwriter William Monahan and Cuba Gooding, Jr, but the real fun came at the after-party which was held at Tom Colicchio's Colicchio and Sons in Chelsea. I was immediately greeted with The Gambler cocktail - not sure what was in it but it definitely seemed to get the party started!
I noticed Ivan Ing who played a total badass in the movie - but is a super nice guy in person, and asked if I wanted to sit at his table so of course I said yes (PS - lots of food comes when you're surrounded by Fame!) It wasn't long before actors Richard Schiff (West Wing) and Domenick Lombardozzi (A Bronx Tale, The Wire, Bridge of Spies) came over to say hello and join us. At the time I didn't know that the biggest star in the room was sitting at the next table - I hadn't even heard of Brie Larson until The Gambler and didn't know that she would soon become an Academy Award winning actress for her role in Room! There was even more Fame in the room than I could have imagined - the perfect night for a self-proclaimed Fame Digger!
